Family-Friendly Adventure Planning
- Plan Ahead: Include the entire family in the trip planning process to ensure that everyone’s interests and preferences are included. Consider the difficulty of the walk, the duration, and the available hotel alternatives.
- Pack Wisely: When travelling with children, it’s important to pack light while also including basics like food, water, sunscreen, bug repellent, and any required prescriptions. Encourage youngsters to bring their own little rucksack with a handful of their favourite objects to keep them interested and motivated throughout the walk.
- Maintain Flexibility: Be prepared for unexpected changes in weather or schedule, especially if travelling with small children. Accept the unpredictability of the outdoors and turn unexpected occurrences into opportunities for learning and discovery.
- Safety First: Teach youngsters the value of sticking with the group, obeying the guide’s instructions, and respecting wildlife and environment. Establish explicit safety regulations before embarking on the walk to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun time.
Responsible Outdoor Ethics for Young Explorers
- Train and Prepare: If you’re planning a tough hike or adventure activity, make sure you physically prepare ahead of time. Focus on increasing endurance, strength, and agility so that you can confidently face the challenges of the outdoors.
- Invest in Quality Gear: Purchase high-quality gear and equipment tailored to the unique needs of your expedition. This includes durable hiking boots, moisture-wicking apparel, a dependable backpack, and other necessities like a headlamp, multitool, and first-aid kit.
- Stay Hydrated and Fueled: Proper hydration and nutrition are essential for sustaining energy and stamina on outdoor outings. Carry lots of water and snacks to keep you hydrated and fueled throughout the hike, and don’t forget to recharge with a balanced dinner after a hard day on the trails.
- Leave No Trace: Follow Leave No Trace principles to reduce your environmental impact and protect the wilderness for future generations. To reduce erosion, pack out any rubbish, avoid injuring plants, and stick to approved pathways only.
Choosing Senior-Friendly Treks
- Choose Suitable Treks: Choose treks and activities that are appropriate for your fitness level and mobility. Look for choices with intermediate difficulty and shorter durations, and don’t be afraid to ask the tour operator for advice geared towards elders.
- Take it Slow: Pace yourself and stop frequently to rest and absorb the landscape. Listen to your body and don’t push yourself beyond your capabilities. Take your time and enjoy being surrounded in nature.
- Stay Comfortable: Wear supportive footwear, breathable clothes, and layers to adapt to changing temperatures. Consider utilising trekking poles or walking sticks to provide additional stability and support, particularly on rough terrain.
- Stay Connected: Stay in touch with your fellow trekkers and the guide during the expedition. Any problems or discomforts should be communicated as soon as possible, and do not be afraid to seek help if necessary. Mutual support and companionship enhance the trekking experience for everyone.
Explore Gir Forest (Our latest adventure – come join us.)
Join us from April 26 to 28, 2024, for a three-day, two-night camp in two of Gujarat’s most distinctive and notable national parks: Sasan Gir and Velavadar. Sasan Gir is regarded as the royal realm for Asiatic lions, whilst Velavadar’s meadows are noted for their exquisite blackbucks.
Gir’s dry and deciduous forest is home to 40 animal species and over 400 bird species. The itinerary will include a lion safari at Devalia Safari Park, a birding path, and wilderness hiking. The camp will provide a chance to learn about native vegetation and connect with the local population. The group can have a better understanding of what it is like to live next door to the King of the Forest. While it is an honor, it also opens the door to potential human-animal conflicts in the region. On the way back, the party will stop by Velavadar National Park, which is noted for its blackbucks, stunning, quick antelope with graceful spiraling horns.
The camp will cost Rs. 6400 per person and will include entirely supervised activities by Wildtrek India, all meals (from day 1 breakfast to day 3 hi-tea), AC accommodation in the resort, admission fees (to the Gir and Velavadar safari parks), and AC transportation.
The trip will involve a night ride from Ahmedabad to Gir (beginning at 12.30 a.m.). The return trip will be a day-long drive.
